I AM

John Clare wrote I AM in 1864 when he was in a Lunatic Asylum. The writing piece is a direct expression of the ultimate disintegration of self and the yearning for absolute communion with the divine. It expresses the utter sorrow, alienation and horror in living we all, at some point in time, brush up against.

I was intrigued by how this poem encompasses being and nonbeing altogether. Its spirit inspired me to produce this poetic film in hopes of visually illustrating the state of exploring and searching into yourself to find meaning and ultimately, wholeness.
