SALAMAT
Mid-December 2018, after a very intense year in my career, I went on a vacation in hopes I have a break and relax. When I was at the airport checking in, I bumped into Abdullah Magdy. Despite us both being part of a work project before and being friends on facebook for so many years by then, this was the first time we formally met. It was an unplanned yet a timely encounter and thankfully we were both leaving to the same destination on the same plane. We had a 4-hour flight to Zurich and we talked the whole ride. We shared with an open heart some of our dearest experiences and the main turning points in our professional and personal life.
In September 2019, almost a year later, we were planning a shooting week in Zurich. The plan was to randomly drive around the city and just film abdallah’s first album Salamat. We picked the cameras we needed, opened our hearts and set off. We leaped. We all let the experience itself shape the outcome.
I’m so deeply thankful for this trip, It was fresh, unfamiliar and enlightening on so many levels. It was the first time in four years to jump on a project with this scale without much planning of what exactly I will be shooting. I’m not used to not even write a tentative shot-list! Im still unfolding the fruits of what this experience taught me. So many things that I can’t put into words. Maybe the Salamat’s video can show you a little of what we went through and show you some of what we saw and experienced.
